Week 5: S.M.A.R.T. Goals

One Year SMART Goal: 

S: 

  • I want to move into my own apartment.

M: 

  • I’ll look at listings after graduation.
  • Every month I’ll tour two places until I can afford/secure a place.

A:

  • I’ll be working so I will be able to save up money.
  • I’ll be splitting the cost with my boyfriend so 

R:

  • It will make me feel like a real adult.
  • It will make commuting to work easier if I get a place close by.
  • I’ll be able to set my own boundaries.

T: 

  • At minimum wage in Seattle ($15), if I work full time (40 hours/ week), if I save ⅓ of my wages for 20 weeks I’ll have $4,000 to put down on an apartment. 

Five Year SMART Goal: 

S: 

  • I want to create a section highlighting POC art in the Seattle area.

M: 

  • I’ll start by working the culture/entertainment desk at a Seattle publication.
  • After I feel established I’ll begin asking to start the section.

A:

  • I’ll write stories about POC art.
  • I look into public interest of a section that highlights POC creators.

R:

  • I’ll be telling stories that might be overlooked in a predominantly white area.
  • I can help other journalists hone their craft.

T: 

  • If I work at a place long enough and prove my skills, I can establish the section within 5 years.
