I pitched writing this story in the midsts of The 19th publishing coverage on President Trump’s first 100 days in office. Previous data showed that our audience prefers a diverse mix of coverage, including historic firsts or record breaking. I proposed that this story would provide some levity on our Instagram feed to keep our audience from tuning out.
This became the top performing piece of the week, with a total reach of 55,140 and a 71% higher engagement compared to the week’s average.
An ongoing goal at The 19th has been in integrate sports coverage into the social media strategy. Over Super Bowl weekend, I kept tabs on different online discussions that would fit into the topics and angles the newsroom covers. When discussing what stories we could produce, I was selected to write this piece.
With a 6.8% engagement rate and a total reach of 62,389, it is one of the best performing Instagram posts in 2025 for the newsroom.
